BECOME A MINOR LEAGUE OPERATOR
Build a League. Grow a Community. Help Shape the Future of Poker.
What if you could bring people together through Poker—not just as individual players, but as members of competing teams?
The World Professional Poker League™ (WPPL) Minor League is designed to introduce organized, team-based Poker competition to local communities. It creates an opportunity for entrepreneurs, poker enthusiasts, and community-minded leaders to help build and operate local leagues around a shared passion for the game.
As a Minor League Operator, you can help establish a new kind of local Poker experience—one built around teams, competition, sportsmanship, and community engagement.
This is an opportunity to build something locally while becoming part of a broader vision for Poker as a Team sport.
EXPRESS INTEREST IN BECOMING AN OPERATOR
1. What Is a WPPL Minor League Operator?
A WPPL Minor League Operator is responsible for organizing and administering an authorized local Minor League.
The Operator brings the local competition to life by coordinating league activities, supporting participating teams, and helping create an organized environment where players can compete as part of a team.
Rather than simply hosting individual poker games, the Operator helps establish a structured competition that brings teams and players together around a common sporting experience.
The opportunity may appeal to people who want to combine their interest in Poker with entrepreneurship, event organization, team sports, or community development.
You bring the local initiative. WPPL provides the broader program framework.
2. What Does an Operator Do?
Operating a local league involves more than organizing a Poker game. It requires leadership, planning, communication, and a commitment to providing a consistent experience for participants.
Responsibilities may include:
Organize Local Competition
Coordinate the activities needed to establish and operate an approved local league, competition logistics, and communication with participating teams.
Support Participating Teams
Maintain communication with local Team Owners, help coordinate league activities, and support a positive and organized competitive environment.
Build Local Interest
Introduce the program to potential participants, develop relationships within the local poker community, and help generate interest in team-based competition.
Coordinate the Participant Experience
Help ensure that league activities are organized, that participants understand applicable requirements, and that competitions are conducted in accordance with the governing rules and standards.
Uphold Integrity and Sportsmanship
Support fair play, respect for participants, and adherence to the applicable WPPL Minor League rules and requirements.
Develop the Local Program
Work to build a sustainable local league by fostering participation, encouraging community engagement, and supporting the development of its teams.
The precise responsibilities of each Operator will be governed by the applicable program requirements and written agreement.
3. What Does WPPL Provide?
The WPPL Minor League is built around a common framework intended to support organized competition across local markets.
Through the authorized program, Operators work within an established structure rather than having to invent an entirely new team-based poker concept on their own.
The program is designed to provide:
- A Defined Competition Framework: An organized approach to local team-based poker competition.
- A Shared Identity: The opportunity to participate in an approved program associated with the WPPL Minor League brand and branding.
- Common Standards: Applicable rules and requirements intended to support consistent competition and integrity.
- A Team-Based Concept: A format built around teams, players, competitive performance, and community participation.
- An Opportunity to Build Locally: A framework within which an Operator can develop local participation and relationships.
The specific rights, resources, services, and obligations applicable to an Operator depend on the program terms and written agreement.
4. Who Makes a Good Operator?
You don’t have to be a professional poker player to be a successful league organizer.
The most important qualities are a genuine interest in the concept, the ability to commit time and effort, and the willingness to build and manage a local program.
Strong candidates may include:
Poker Community Leaders
Individuals with established relationships in their local Poker community who want to help create a new way for people to experience the game.
Entrepreneurs and Business Builders
People interested in developing a local business opportunity around an organized recreational and competitive activity.
Event and League Organizers
People with experience coordinating events, managing schedules, communicating with participants, or organizing competitive activities.
Team Sports Enthusiasts
Individuals who understand the appeal of team identity, competition, community involvement, and organized sporting experiences.
Community Builders
People who enjoy bringing individuals together around a shared interest and developing activities that encourage ongoing participation.
You don’t need to fit neatly into one or any of these categories. What matters most is whether you have the desire, interest, time, and capability to take responsibility for developing a local league.
5. Is This the Right Opportunity for You?
Before expressing interest, consider a few important questions:
- Are you genuinely interested in helping Poker develop as a team sport?
- Can you devote the time needed to establish and administer a local league?
- Are you comfortable coordinating teams, communicating with participants, and managing competition logistics?
- Do you have an understanding of your local community and the people who might be interested in participating?
- Are you prepared to operate within the applicable WPPL program requirements and written agreement?
- Are you interested in developing a local program over time rather than simply hosting a one-time event?
You don’t need to have every answer before reaching out. An initial conversation can help determine whether the opportunity aligns with your interests, capabilities, and expectations.
6. How the Opportunity Works
The WPPL Minor League is designed to provide an organized framework for local team-based competition.
Prospective Operators first explore the opportunity and determine whether the program is a suitable fit. Any subsequent participation is subject to WPPL approval, applicable requirements, and the execution of the appropriate written agreement.
The process generally involves:
Step 1 — Express Interest
Introduce yourself and tell us why you’re interested in operating a WPPL Minor League.
Step 2 — Explore the Opportunity
Discuss the program with a WPPL representative, including your local market, your availability, and the responsibilities associated with operating a league.
Step 3 — Review Program Requirements
Learn about the applicable program structure, obligations, commercial terms, and requirements before making a commitment.
Step 4 — Determine Next Steps
If the opportunity appears suitable, WPPL can explain the applicable approval process and requirements for proceeding.
Expressing interest does not guarantee approval or authorization to operate a league. Any rights and obligations will be established through the applicable written agreement.
7. A Local Opportunity Within a Bigger Vision
The WPPL Minor League is intended to help communities explore a different way to experience Poker: as an organized, team-based competition.
By bringing together Operators, Team Owners, and Players, the program seeks to encourage participation, support player development, and help establish a stronger community around the game.
For the right individual, operating a local league can be an opportunity to combine entrepreneurship, leadership, and a passion for Poker while contributing to the development of team-based competition.
The immediate focus is on building successful local leagues and creating a positive experience for their participants.
Any future relationship between the Minor League and the WPPL Professional League will be determined by WPPL and established only through appropriate approval and written agreements.
Operating a Minor League does not confer professional-team ownership, professional-league membership, guaranteed promotion, or any other automatic professional-league rights.
